The Montana Legislature Has Passed Suicide Prevention Legislation!

The Montana Legislature has passed Rep. Jonathan Windy Boy’s HB 118 to provide a million dollars worth of funding for community-based grants for suicide prevention.

NAMI Montana has been working on this effort for a long time. We are deeply thankful to Rep. Windy Boy for his leadership, the Montana Legislature for their bipartisan support, and Governor Steve Bullock for his long-standing commitment to this effort.

The bill is headed to the Governor’s desk. Now it’s up to mental health and suicide prevention advocates in Montana communities to start coming up with evidence-based ideas to apply for these grants and implement efforts to save lives across this great state!

Yippee, we have been providing suicide prevention training to schools and communities in Flathead County and want to thank you for recognizing that funding is necessary to promote wellness, raise awareness and provide tools to reduce suicide in Montana. Suicide is a preventable form of violent death, through education, stigma reduction, access to treatment we can save lives. Thank you, it has been a very long wait.
